Sewing Lessons for Adult

Are you ready to learn to sew?  I am offering "How to sew a little girl's skirt" or "Sew shorts for children" to interested local friends.  Prices are $25.00 for one-on-one instruction and $20.00 for a bring a friend rate ($20 per person).  Three people would be a comfortable number.  More than three would be less one-on-one instruction.  You need a sewing machine (borrow?).  You will have a short list of preparation and items to purchase.  The class is at your house and you will have a finished product when I leave.  Send a text or email to set up a time.  336-408-5143 or hotshotpolkadot@gmail.com.

I will be offering other classes for boy's items, women's items, house decor, etc.  Stay tuned or make a non-complicated (!) request.   Also, I have a special class for little girls to sew a doll skirt or boy/girl drawstring tote bag.  (7 years and older).  For safety reasons, the children's  class should be one-on-one and a parent should stay during the class.

I have one and it is very frustrating.  The thread breaks every 10 minutes or so.

I can do a separate lesson on how to use your machine.  Price:  $25.00 per hour.


Preparation:

Skirt:

1. Measure the child from waistline to preferred length.
2. Add 4 inches (for hem and casing).
3. One yard purchase is usually enough for a gathered skirt for a child.

Shorts:

       1. Measure desired length on child
       2. Measure around the hips and add at least 10 inches.  Buy at least one yard of fabric.

Buy:

1. The fabric
2. Thread white or matching.
3. Exact waist measurement--Elastic 3/4 inch width (you can buy "by the yard" or in a pack)
4. OR long enough to make a bow when tied shoestring for drawstring skirt or shorts

Have on hand or bring:

1. Sewing machine (borrow from friend?).  Brother machines at Walmart are inexpensive and great quality. 
2. Fabric, thread, elastic
3. Scissors  
4. For shorts-have on hand a pair of shorts that fit really well (I will draft a pattern for you).

We have taken family beach trips for several years...for the past 3 years, we have taken a family picture.  I make the girls' dresses.  Jacob dresses like his dad and Popi.

Have you ever wondered what the Bratz doll looks like without her make up.

Repainted face and modest clothes.

Maybe you have seen how Sonia Singh(trademark) wanted to make the Bratz dolls more child friendly.  She took off the make-up and repainted the face and her mother sewed modest clothing.  "Made under" dolls are offered on Etsy for $30 up to $150.

Now, your local girl, ME!, will repaint your doll's face for $20. Clothes are $5-$10.  Shoes are $5.  I have 10 a bunch of my own dolls for sale.

I can repaint Barbie, Moxie, Monster High, etc.

Use a spring rod to hang play panel in a doorway.

Velcro backed felt food, money, etc.  A menu for a have it your way burger.

Reversible play panel.  The inside and the outside.

Purchase includes a reversible play panel and felt food.  A spring rod (not included) holds the panel in the doorway.  Children can play with the felt pieces provided or they can use their own bakery type toys.  More drive-thru panels will be listed on this blog or my Instagram. Felt bakery foods attach to the panel with Velcro.  The panel and the felt food have detailed free motion embroidery.  

A special order card table tent is available.

The tent folds up in a neat tube for easy storage.

The panels have an inside and outside interactive play--Velcro removable food, utensils, etc.

Pictures shows the workable door and the food inside the refrigerator.

Father's Day

My daddy's shirt  

Here are two little girl dresses made from their daddy's shirts for Father's Day.  I left the designer label on the Smocked dress. Brother has a matching bow tie.

What I like about "My Daddy's Shirt" designs...they look so European-French and UK.  Also, if you look at Australian designs, you will see a similarity.  Take a look at http://babyccinokids.com/.

Making shoes

I've made several pairs of baby shoes as shower gifts.  The black and white shoes have Psalms 139:14 printed on the fabric.  The pink shoes are made from fabric that I quilted.

Sewing doll shoes and baby shoes is something I could do everyday.  The following doll shoes sold on my Etsy store.

Dress up

Jacob and Maddi love to play dress up.  The vest is reversible.  I made Jacob a super hero cape with a "J" in a Superman type logo (I can't believe I did not take a picture).  He put it on and said to his mommy, "But mommy, I can't fly!".
